I see now that some of the bands mentioned came earlier. I might have to rethink my nomination. |
Spiritualized or Massive Attack are great choices for me.
If electronic is fine, then The Orb are one of my favorites. I have a soft spot for the Wildhearts too :p:. Currently undecided, but I'll choose soon! I might have forgotten something as well. |

Most of my favourite 90s bands happen to be American, but since I have to choose I'll go with My Bloody Valentine, because their one 90s record is fantastic and to many, life changing, and maybe Portishead, because they're not a popular choice around here : P |
I know I'll probably catch a lot of shit for this, but I always thought the state of rock music in the UK during the 90s was pretty sad. Fortunately it was more than made up for by all the great electronica and dance music coming out of the UK at the time.

Radiohead and Oasis are for sure essential but I hope no one's forgetting Bush. They had multiple amazing tunes. The Comedown is one of the best songs ever!!!

EDIT : Kula Shaker, I think, is a great band that came out of the 90s. Their reunion album "strangefolk" had some really good tracks too. |
Electric Wizard was the best British band from the '90s. Come My Fanatics was the best British album of the '90s.

I wish to resurrect this as i was thinking about this very topic the other day.
In the end it came down My Bloody Valentine, Massive Attack, Prodigy, Tricky, Portishead, Slowdive, Ride, Lush and Radiohead. Basically shoegaze and trip hop. These acts are, to me, a level above certainly Oasis, Pulp, Blur, Suede and the like whilst, though i respect them, Aphex Twin, Leftfield and Primal Scream really dont do it for me. It then got me thinking how shit British music has been for the last 20 years. With exception to the bands i've listed above, there isnt much British material at all that i like from 90s - and the 00's are even worse. Btw, in the end i decided on Massive Attack. |
