On the other hand, Kevin Shields hasn't been nearly productive enough to fill out as great a musical void. With Loveless as his only contribution to music in the last eighteen years (and the entirety of the '90s), I think that he has an appropriate influence, but much too overstated for his short productive era. Similarly, I would never put Neutral Milk Hotel in that category (yes, I am aware that they are American). One good album just isn't enough.

And I agree with you about Radiohead. I mean, I enjoy The Bends and OKC but I would never go as far to call them a defining '90s band, especially when they never really achieved their trademark sound until '00.

Songs in A&E is an impressively good album for a band that have been around for such a long time. By the looks of things, it is still in my top 30 albums of the year to date, and I'm giving it a listen pretty soon to evaluate its position.

Blur

I've never gotten too into blur and I couldn't bring myself to have My Bloody Valentine over Radihead, so there ya go. I will admit though that Radiohead is a more important band to this decade than it was to the 90s.

I love My Bloody Valentine a lot but even though Loveless came out in 1991 aren't they more of an 80s band? They sure were influential and somewhat ahead of their time.

One of Pulp, Supergrass and Super Furry Animals for me

Mansun or Dream City Film Club for me. MBV's primary output was pre '90 and Radiohead's 90's output is rarely given a spin. Good call on Spiritualised too.

I'm of the rare opinion that Radiohead's best output was their 90s material. I'll take Pablo Honey over any other Radiohead album.

My Dying Bride needs mention. While probably not a favorite on MB I have this weird fanboyistic attachment to them.

Has no one given Massive Attack a shout out yet? Sheesh.
