Wow...this thread hasn't been posted in since '05.
So "The Great Escape Artist" is streaming on iTunes and I had to check it out. I'm pleasantly surprised. Granted, I'm one of the few who seems to have found some enjoyment in "Strays"...but I can definitely see how it wasn't welcomed very warmly. They had definitely lost their Jane's Addiction-ness...it was straight ahead alternative rock. They seem to have gained some of that back this time around. They are a bit more adventurous with their songs, but there is a maturity with the music that needs to be there considering the age of the band. I'll gladly add this one to my collection once it actually gets released. Very enjoyable stuff.

This is anathema to me. Nothing's Shocking is excellent. A classic.
Ritual de lo habitual is possibly even better but if so, it's very close. Also, I recently happened upon a used CD of their s/t live album and bought it without hesitation. It's pure JA and I needed a hard copy.

I'd go the other direction, Ritual is close but not better. I find there's a bit too much filler on that one. Then She Did... and Of Course don't need to be 7-8 minutes long each. They could have trimmed those tracks down to reasonable lengths thereby increasing their impact and found room to fit Kettle Whistle, Whores, or Slow Divers into the album.
