Agreed - Soundgarden were a bastard cousin of doom metal, where AIC were a bastard cousin of trade metal. One being more testosterone driven than the other.... I think that gets you more fans. From what I've seen at least, I'm no expert but other metalheads don't love my doom playlists.

But yeah, "grunge" is a dumb genre that doesn't really exist. The big four of Seattle all sounded very different. It's funny that STP was probably a bit more adventurous with their sound than the other four, despite starting off as total ripoffs: |

You make a great point about grunge as a genre. I've thought similarly before. |
I'm gonna be an annoying hipster and say **** all this **** it's about the Melvins. Not only have they consistently ruled their entire career but they took major label money to make some of their best albums that major labels could do nothing with.
|
I always forget about The Melvins. I think because my introduction to them was a lackluster song, so I never bothered going further.
That was good. |
I mean they invented sludge, they got hardcore, they got drone doom, they got weird ****. If as a doom fan you haven't yet explored their discography then there's a straight up S-tier band on a level with Candlemass and Electric Wizard waiting for you to fall in love with them.

Eh. I know. So they say. So much music out there, at the end of the day... I judge by first appearances.
|
Well here's a third impression cause every fan of heavy riffs deserves the Melvins.
