Isn't that harsh? To be honest, Iron Maiden were the innovators of Power Metal. They influenced more than a few ****ty bands.

I agree with the Sabbath comment, undoubtedly they are and will always be the greatest metal band ever, even if people prefer Maiden, but you can't neglect what the latter have done for Metal, in general.

He's right, Urban. They didn't just influence a few power metal bands, they influenced a whole legion of shitty power metal bands.

Sabbaths influence goes beyond metal.
This is whom Maiden influenced (according to mmguide). It was far more than power metal... I've bolded the non metal bands I can see. I had to look some of them up... but notice that Boondox is rap. They influenced far more than power metal and influenced bands outside metal like Black Sabbath.

I don't really care about influences anyway. I like Faith No More, but they always get accused of influenced a wave of nu-metal.

Abadon, Accept, Angel Dust, Anthrax, Anton Maiden, At All Cost, Avenged Sevenfold, The Banner, Bible of the Devil, Bitter End, The Black League, Boondox, Breed 77, Bullet for My Valentine, Cellador, Clawfinger, Coheed & Cambria, Collision, Coroner, Dark Tranquillity, Death, Death Angel, Demons & Wizards, Dream Theater, Early Man, Einherjer, Electric Eel Shock, Excel, Exodus, Fozzy, Freedom Call, The ****ing Champs, The Fully Down, Funeral for a Friend, Gamma Ray, Grade, Grim Reaper, GZR, Halford, Hammerfall, Heavenly, Helloween, Herod, James Hetfield, Iced Earth, In Flames, Iron Monkey, Kalas, King's X, Land of the El Caminos, Magnitude 9, Mercyful Fate, Metal Church, Metallica, My Chemical Romance, My Sixth Sense, Nocturnal Rites, Adam Pascal, Plug Spark Sanjay, Queensrÿche, Rifles at Recess, Savatage, Sentenced, Skeletor, Skrape, Slayer, Slipknot, Spinal Tap, Sutra, Tad Morose, Three Inches of Blood, Usurper, Valient Thorr, Venom, W.A.S.P., White Zombie, Wicked Wisdom, Witchfynde, Xendra, Zanister

Iron Maiden definitely. Who cares about who they influenced...I just like their sound better, and they have more content and the members are still touring/recording. They also aren't completely ****ed up yet.

^^^Exactly. They haven't yet done a 'St. Anger' yet, thankfully.

There's nothing ****ty about Power Metal either, but that's upto each individual's opinions. Its my favorite genre of Metal anyway.

i honestly think they're both good bands..I prefer Black Sabbath though.
Usually when people learn to play instruments, they start out by learning to play simple songs by both these bands, thats probably why they make such a big influence.

Thats all very well but i`d struggle to find 2 bands I like there , and there are some very dubious choices I mean bands like Venom , Witchfynde and a few others i`d call contemperaries rather than being influenced by.
And pretty much all those bands are either power metal or sound a bit like metal. There`s not really a lot of diversity.
