That's a good way to put it. I know that they aren't my thing (I try to avoid being insulting but in this case I think we all agree they aren't very good) but if I don't give this new album atleast chance than that really goes against this whole open mind asthetic I've been trying to force myself into. Plus I'm sure it'll be fun to be in the countless jokes that are sure to abound from it.

1. Tough guy: many of their lyrics are outspoken against violence 2. Wigger: their front man is of Mexican descent 3. Nu-Metal: they formed before nu-metal existed 4. MTV: their first music video, for their first single 'Killing in the Name', was just some footage from a live performance |

thing is RATM did appeal to the exact same demographic of 'tough guy wigger nu-metal mtv' fans as Limp Bizkit.
nu-metal had also been around for a few years before Rage (suicidal tendencies / biohazard etc.), the term just hadn't been coined yet. it's clear as day that Rage is a superior group to Bizkit but they both most definitely owe a debt to MTV for the level of success they managed to achieve. i don't doubt that RATM could have amounted to something completely independently (maybe even with a reversal of the hypocrisy / integrity ratio). Bizkit on the other hand is a band of coattail riders. |
