Warrent's 3rd album released in 1993 (Well into the Grunge era) went gold so plenty of people were still buying their records, Not bad for a band with only one song people remember. Then after that they broke up. Again nothing to do with 'alternative rock'.
WASP split up in 1990 so Blackie Lawless could record a solo album, again nothing to do with 'alternative rock'

People shouldn't make sweeping generalisations.
Vince released a typical Crue album in 1993 and it bombed.

I think this Warrant album was released in late 92. It shipped Gold but I don't think it sold enough. That's sad, because it was their best record.

Looking at Wikipedia, this Blackie album was released under the band's name.

You know, Motley Crue's new music (i.e. New Tattoo and Saints of Los Angeles) is superior to their late eighties material. Even Dr. Feelgood. I've found that I don't even really like that album very much. Half the songs are awesome ("Dr. Feelgood", "Kickstart My Heart", "Same 'Ol Situation", "She Goes Down", "Don't Go Away Mad"), but the other half are just boring. And the over production of Bob Rock certainly doesn't help. Their last two albums might not have songs as high quality as "Kickstart My Heart" or "Wild Side", but at least they're consistent.

It's a well known fact that solo albums by artists in bands never sell as many as the bands they come from. If you were to write a list of ones that did it would be a very short list indeed.

OK I got the date wrong but an album going gold almost 2 years after grunge was supposed to have killed hair metal says to me it wasn't quite as dead as people make out.

Because he was pressured into it by the record company, maybe because of the reason I gave you for Vince Neil's album selling poorly. WASP itself disbanded in 1990 and were reformed when that album came out. Between those times Lawless was selling himself as a solo artist.

I only read the last few pages of this thread and, from there, it looks like Urban is the only one making any kind of sense so I don't even know where to start my criticism and I guess I'll just tell a story instead.

Girls, Girls, Girls most definitely contributed to the destruction of my cochlea and here's why: When I was about 12 one of my chores was to mow the roughly two acres of grass at my house in Virginia (and btw, Janszoon, what you described is called Sweet Tea. Iced Tea has no sugar and of course sometimes people in the states also drink hot tea for some reason) and so I used a riding lawnmower which was very fucking loud.

Despite the fact that all I had to do was to drive a motor vehicle around for a couple of hours I still hated it because it was a chore. So to alleviate my boredom and frustration I used to listen to my walkman and, naturally, I had to crank the volume all the way up to hear the music over the motor. I listened to a lot of different stuff at the time but Girls, Girls, Girls sticks out in my mind for this reason:

I used to sing along with the music when I rode this goddam lawnmower around the property and, in my mind, it was like casually singing in the shower or something. My ears were always ringing afterwards but I didn't figure that this mattered (I was 12). One day, after a grueling session of mowing and listening to Girls, Girls, Girls I came back in the house and my mom asked me: "Were you just screaming at the top of your lungs that whole time?" Now this concerned me because most of the lawn was many yards away from the house so how could she possibly have heard me? I realized that, yes, I had been screaming the whole time and had no idea how loud my "singing along" was because of all the ambient noise from the mower.

So thank you, 80s Motley Crue, you helped the ringing in my ears get where it is today. I hope you're happy.

I know. That's why I didn't call it iced tea.

Any thoughts on the latest single, Sex? I enjoy it, but then again I enjoy everything Motley puts out.

Not great but not bad either.
I think it's exactly what they said they would deliver in regards to being something between 'Too Fast For Love' and 'SATD'...
People lambasting it saying it's lazy and nothing like the old sound obviously haven't listened to either of those albums for a while.

I like it and I think it's them being themselves again.
