I love Zeitgeist too - solid album! At first I kinda though, yeah, um this sounds like the Pumpkins trying too hard to be the Pumpkins, but ya know, the more I have listened to it the more I hear different directions and ideas... I think the back to basics nature of the production kinda obscures it a bit, and there is a generally conservative notion about the album, like Corgan and Chamberlain were both kinda feeling their way back into it - kinda like getting used to driving that old sports car you drive as a kid - you're not as bold on the gas pedal, you tend not to throw it into the corners the way you remember being able to as a kid...
But spend a little time at the wheel and you can chuck it around even more than before... This is how i see the Pumpkins in the future - after warming themselves up and getting back into it with Zeitgeist, mr. Corgan should be all set to boldly strike out... And as much as people criticise Mellon Collie..... god it'd be great to hear Corgan experimenting on that wildly diverse level again, carelessly swinging from genre to genre, from hard driven riffs to crazy little electronic sounds... I think with time the newly reformed Pumpkins will rediscover some of this wild abandon.

Oh yeah, I completely agree. I bought their dvd that they released this year and I only knew like 3 or 4 songs on it from a whole concert. They were all newer b-side type things but they were still amazing.

Really looking forward to what they come out with next - if Corgan remains creative, dedicated to pushing his own and others boundaries as as a songwriter, then the next album could be killer... I'll be certain to lay down my hard earned dollars on a copy!

I think the whole see sawing fortunes of the Smashing Pumpkins has taken a toll on Corgan somewhat, but Zeitgeist was a valiant and even somewhat successful attempt at wiping the slate clean and starting from scratch - it kept the formula simple, but recogniseable, similar to what we know, but not a carbon copy of it...
It was a conservative dip in the water after getting slam dunked by a tsunami sized wave... I am betting that after getting back into the water and getting his feet wet we might see a less conservative approach... I sure hope so, because when he is rampantly creative, it sure yeilds some damn good music...

No offence, but what is it exactly about those tracks that made you post their titles (seemingly) at random here... just curious / probably stupid or missing something in the head tonight...

Ahhh, got it. I am officially an air head tonight, so I do actually appreciate the clarification!
Man it's actually quite hard to narrow down my favorite pumpkins songs... But if its gotta be a few, I have to Say Mayonnaise, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans and Perfect would be three of them... The only reason I love Perfect so much is just because it absolutely relates to my personal history in an almost carbon copy of my situation way... The other two I love because I really love those lengthy, thematically "big" tracks that they do so well - when music and theme gel completely and cohesively, those longer songs can be incredible...
