"My boredom has outshined the sun/" Billy sings on Plume, back when their tracks sounded more alt-rock, more Nirvana-grunge, if you know what I mean.

What I'm trying to say is talk about the Smashing Pumpkins and/or Billy Corgan. Sorry if a thread has already been started.

A forum can never have too many Pumpkins threads, hmm? =)

Concerning Zeitgeist, I'm withholding my judgement of the future album until I hear it all, in it's entirety. I won't judge it pre-emptively from the 30-second clip of Tarantula, nor will I judge it by the first full-length single. I will buy it on the 10th of July (my birthday, BTW), take it up to my room, and open up my heart to what I hope will an entirely unique, entirely PUMPKIN experience on par with any of their past endeavours.

James and D'arcy may be gone, but I won't lose faith in Billy Corgan's musical genius. And Jimmy Chamberlin's catasrophic drumming, besides. =) While the whole political edge sounds a little iffy to me, I just remember that if albums like Adore have taught SP fans anything, it's that one must keep an open mind to appreciate a band as infinitely malleable as the Pumpkins.

Long live Smashing Pumpkins, hmm? =) I can't wait!

I'm eager to hear who will fill out the band. Maybe Melissa Auf Du Mar(sp?) on bass? Who would you guys like to see?

Anyone but Melissa, after her solo album the women just annoys me

TheBig3 05-20-2007 08:47 AM

I once heard Billy Corgan refered to as the John Fogerty of our generation; a control freak who knows what he's doing.

I'm inclined to agree.

And I heard whatever the hell the new single is called on the radio. They certainly came along way from songs like "disarm" but I honestly thought the new track was amazing.

I am inclined to think that he would want to try to get a female, and she is the only one I could think of at the moment. Do you guys think he will try for a female?

TheBig3 05-20-2007 10:57 AM

Well he may, but Corgan won't be looking for a band I don't think. I'm assuming it will largely be session based. That bassist might be a woman but at that point does it matter?

If he doesn't get a woman, he's going to get someone who doesn't give a ****. Might be nice for him to pick up Oliveri (sp?) but thats a no-chance hypothetical.

boo boo 05-20-2007 02:14 PM

Smashing Pumpkins without a chick bassist? Say it ain't so. :(

tikitorch 05-21-2007 02:51 PM

If you're thinking of seeing The Smashing Pumpkins...

in Asheville, NC, tickets go on sale tonight at 7pm Eastern Time via Ticketmaster.com. They're playing nine nights (June 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, July 2, 3, 5) at The Orange Peel, which is a cool club.

I read that they did get a female bassist and a female keyboardist. I couldn't find any of their old bands though, for reference.

Lol...I read that last night, almost pissed meself laughing. The Pitchfork dude sounded like a sulking teenager....

sleepy jack 06-23-2007 04:07 AM

I'd be pissed if I thought the smashing pumpkins were any good.

adidasss 06-23-2007 04:14 AM

I wouldn't. I download everything anyway so I'd do the same with the extra songs...if I liked them that is........>.>

facepalm 06-23-2007 10:55 AM

Any thoughts on them taking Taking Back Sunday with them to Live Earth?

wow....What corporate whorishness

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-23-2007 02:12 PM

I bet in 6 months time they'll release a 'special edition' with all the tracks plus a few 'previously unreleased' tracks to bump it up to 2 discs.

I was right to disown this band when I did.

adidasss 06-23-2007 03:13 PM

You mean, there was a time when you liked Corgan's whiny-bitch singing...?

boo boo 06-23-2007 05:14 PM

I disagree with the assertion that Corgan and Chamberin were the only members mattered. Iha's guitar playing was very important to the band.

Holy crap thats lame.

But then again this is kind of a good thing, because this will just encourage more people to turn to illegal firesharing. :)

What I'll probably do is buy one of the 4 versions of the album, then download all the other tracks off soulseek. Clever, right?

*Hopes Billy Corgan isn't reading this right now.*

I don't like the Smashing Pumpkins but that's a cocknose thing to do.

boo boo 06-24-2007 02:23 AM

Its not even a good marketing strategy, because I don't think many people are gonna be dumb enough to fall for it. In the long run this will be a huge financial mistake for Reprise Records.

I could be wrong though.

cardboard adolescent 06-24-2007 09:33 PM

The video they link to at the end is pretty retarded... anyone who thinks they're being clever and sticking it to Billy Corgan by BUYING one of his cd's and then smashing it is pretty much a moron.

Like all the people they showed on TV "boycotting" French wine by buying it and then pouring it down the gutter...

It will be. No one is going to buy the same album three times to get two bonus tracks that they could easily get off of the internet for free. HUGE financial mistake for sure.

boo boo 06-24-2007 11:18 PM

Besides, without Iha and either Wretsky or Auf der Maur its not a true Pumpkins reunion, and I refuse to accept it as such.

The only thing that is gonna differentiate Zeitgeist from Corgans solo stuff will be the contributions of Chamberlin.

He said he got it for free at some radio show thing, which probably isn't true and he just made up to counter that..

That especially pisses me off.

Seriously, boycotts are the most lame of lame ideas. Should we boycott the Statue of Liberty since the French gave it to us? Should we boycott all Wolkswagen Beetles because they were commissioned by the Nazis and were based on designs by Hitler himself? Should we boycott IBM for their ties to the Holocaust?

I agree. Though I'm going to download the CD anyway so it doesn't really matter how many versions of zeitgeist are released.

I read somewhere that some people actually boycotted French's (the American mustard producer) thinking it to be French.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-28-2007 05:18 PM

I'm going to download it & not listen to it , just to annoy him.

This reminds me of when CDs would include a bonus track not available on the LPs back in the late 80s and early 90s. Total and utter ****e. Basically, you should buy none of them.

sleepy jack 06-30-2007 02:16 PM

No one should buy it, it'll be re-released in a year or two with all the bonus tracks on one when they decide they want more money.

lesssalt 06-30-2007 02:34 PM

I wonder if it the label's choice or the band's choice. These exclusive deals suck and no one should support them.

TheBig3 07-01-2007 12:59 AM

how about you buy it if you think you'll like the god damn music.

I happen to expect great things from the new CD. I probably won't buy it until I hear some other tracks, but Corgan has an ear for music. He's always been a bag of ****s though, im not really sure why this shocks anyone, or why at this juncture in his career we should stop buying his records because of it.

Dr. Yellow Black 11-03-2008 01:45 PM

Oh, I'll probably get it for my birthday ;). What is your favorite song on Siamese Dream?

simplephysics 11-03-2008 05:12 PM

All of my pipes and pieces somehow end up being named after a Smashing Pumpkins song. Hmm.
