Not true actually, he worked with Butch Vig on Gish (he was producer for that one too) which was released in May of '91.

Well f*ck, I didn't know Butch also produced Gish, it sounds so different from Siamese Dream.

Yeah, to be honest with you, I had to check to be sure. But I think Billy kind of drove the change in sound more than Butch did if memory serves. I think the layering of hundreds of guitars in Siamese Dream was Billy's idea, rather than Butch's.
