"My boredom has outshined the sun/" Billy sings on Plume, back when their tracks sounded more alt-rock, more Nirvana-grunge, if you know what I mean.

What I'm trying to say is talk about the Smashing Pumpkins and/or Billy Corgan. Sorry if a thread has already been started.
A forum can never have too many Pumpkins threads, hmm? =)

Concerning Zeitgeist, I'm withholding my judgement of the future album until I hear it all, in it's entirety. I won't judge it pre-emptively from the 30-second clip of Tarantula, nor will I judge it by the first full-length single. I will buy it on the 10th of July (my birthday, BTW), take it up to my room, and open up my heart to what I hope will an entirely unique, entirely PUMPKIN experience on par with any of their past endeavours.

James and D'arcy may be gone, but I won't lose faith in Billy Corgan's musical genius. And Jimmy Chamberlin's catasrophic drumming, besides. =) While the whole political edge sounds a little iffy to me, I just remember that if albums like Adore have taught SP fans anything, it's that one must keep an open mind to appreciate a band as infinitely malleable as the Pumpkins.

Long live Smashing Pumpkins, hmm? =) I can't wait!

I'm eager to hear who will fill out the band. Maybe Melissa Auf Du Mar(sp?) on bass? Who would you guys like to see?

I once heard Billy Corgan refered to as the John Fogerty of our generation; a control freak who knows what he's doing.

I'm inclined to agree.

And I heard whatever the hell the new single is called on the radio. They certainly came along way from songs like "disarm" but I honestly thought the new track was amazing.

I am inclined to think that he would want to try to get a female, and she is the only one I could think of at the moment. Do you guys think he will try for a female?

Well he may, but Corgan won't be looking for a band I don't think. I'm assuming it will largely be session based. That bassist might be a woman but at that point does it matter?

If he doesn't get a woman, he's going to get someone who doesn't give a ****. Might be nice for him to pick up Oliveri (sp?) but thats a no-chance hypothetical.

Default If you're thinking of seeing The Smashing Pumpkins...

in Asheville, NC, tickets go on sale tonight at 7pm Eastern Time via Ticketmaster.com. They're playing nine nights (June 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, July 2, 3, 5) at The Orange Peel, which is a cool club.

I read that they did get a female bassist and a female keyboardist. I couldn't find any of their old bands though, for reference.
