Thrash is fun, don't get me wrong, and without it nothing else would really exist, and maybe it's because I play bass, but Doom stuff is just way more fun to me to play. Doom is just a great excuse for deep, low tones and trippy effects, and groovy riffs fit a bit better in Doom than they do in Thrash for me. I'm not just blindly following guitars for Doom the way that I typically am with Thrash. Doom also makes a lot more money in the underground where I'm from, too, which is odd because you'd think it'd be more Thrash that would rake in the cash still but not typically unless you're doing a cover band for Thrash which I have seen people do, it's just not that common because it gets boring playing other peoples material all the time (unless of course the riffs are fun as **** to play, that is). I like them both equally, maybe Doom just a smidge more though. I do take a decent influence from each, is the thing. It's like apples and oranges to me, totally different things.

Interesting, I'm a bassist as well but I find thrash more fun in the long run. Playing doom riffs and coming up with them is great too, but there's little more satisfying than finally getting a thrash bass riff up to speed after so much practicing. Best example: Anthrax's Caught in a Mosh.
