Yeah that's def true. Indie rock has taken in a lot of influences over the years like post-punk, dream pop, etc. so I think it's generally pretty fluid and allows for some great diverse bands. It's hard for me to say there's a thick line between say Modest Mouse and The Organ, two drastically-different sounding indie bands.

Which is exactly why it's annoying when people say that indie sucks, because what even is indie at this point?

How do those traits differ for you from band to band? I'm curious to know because I find it hard to hear a difference or pin a band as unique simply because of how they present themselves. I'd like to understand where you're coming from.

A good example of my point is Greta Van Fleet, a band that has an extraordinary amount of energy but their songwriting and style is stunningly similar to Zep. There's only so much I can go on by just them being energetic because their music is just a stale rehashing of a much more musically diverse and creative band.

Don't quite know. It's like saying "I hate alternative rock."

Sure but I don't think the point being made is that a band needs to be experimental or super creative to be good. Rather, if a band has a lack of originality at their core then what's causing them be enjoyable at any level below the surface? There's only so far you can go with a fun, fast song and an energetic performance. Especially when there's a hundred thousand more bands right in the line behind you with the exact same energy and have the exact "from the heart" sound as you do, and to top it off their songwriting is brutally similar to your own. What makes that thrash band, or the hundred thousand others, truly stand out at that point? I'm sorry but I can't help hearing the massive amounts of similarities and cliches in thousands of different bands, similarities and cliches that are infuriating when they get repeated ad nauseum. It's irritating just like it is with the thousands of same-sounding indie rock bands.

Does the band make me want to put my fist through a wall? Yes? Then they're enjoyable. End of story.

That aside, I do think thrash peaked earlier than doom, even though it started over a decade later.
Doom started earlier than thrash with Witchfinder General, Pagan Altar, and Saint Vitus.

Wow. Damn. Learn something everyday.

I mean just around the same time but it has like a year on it. Of course Pentagram move that even earlier by a decade if you want to count a single band (and yeah Sabbath kinda) as beginning a genre.

That's what I said. I was saying thrash peaked earlier than doom, even though doom existed a decade before thrash.

Also could you call Pentagram in their earliest really "doom"? They were more psychy heavy metal than anything else, at least until 1979.

No I don’t like the always digging deeper game.

If that's what you meant then you ****ed that sentence up.

As someone who is not a fan of death and most of extreme metal, I have to say this: when it comes to creativity and musical diversity in metal music, Death's Symbolic crushes any thrash metal album not named Rust in Peace(yep, even very acclaimed classics as Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets). Also I could tell the same for Opeth's Blackwater Park.
