They are obviously metal to me, sludge metal/grunge.

Yeah, they have a lot of experimental stuff, but a band doesn't have to ONLY play metal in order to be a metal band.

They inspired sludge metal but to say they're sludge metal is like saying Black Sabbath are doom metal. At times not totally unjustified but kinda dumb.
