I'm not a huge Godsmack fan, so I'm a bit bias on this topic. Actually, I'm very bias on this topic, because I really, really don't like Godsmack. Staind is not my favorite, but I like them. You can't say that bands don't have deep or meaningful lyrics, because the lyrics may mean something different to different people.
I remember watching something on the History Channel, I believe, and I think it was on Jasper Johns, one of the most famous modern artists. He created his peices with no real ties to experiences in his life, only to make the viewer think. He didn't believe that the artist should "tell" the viewer how to interpret his art. That's how I feel about music; it all speaks to us in different ways, so no flaming lyrics of bands whom I bet you've never sat down and talked to about their music. We don't know what was going on in their heads as they were penning the lines, so who are we to interpret what they were thinking? It can only affect us...

Staind did an interview on the local alternative station here in Atlanta.
I listened while in the shower, and I swear, it was the only time on radio that there was a complete silence, for like 5 minutes straight. Even the DJs joked that he was the most boring guy that they ever interviewed. I kid you not when I say : It was dead silent |
