AIC is quite different from FNM. For a few threads now, all you've been doing is saying "this album sucks" without explaining why you hate it. If you hate an album, that's fine, but why don't you tell us why? "It sucks" doesn't tell us anything.

Love this album. I think AIC blend a lot of things that I really like in alternative rock - they sort of have this Guns N Roses vibe throughout all of their early material, but they're also very dark and gloomy. I like how they blend both of those styles to create their own sound, to the extent that only the most astute listener really seems to recognize the GnR influence. Metallica would go on to at least partially adopt this sound with Load ReLoad, which is the ultimate sign of respect from the biggest heavy metal band of all time. My favorite songs are "Them Bones" and "Would?". I could have easily have given this a 9, but I gave it an 8 because I give out too many high scores on these and it's too late to change it to a 9. Sorry AIC.

Gave it a 10. Masterpiece.

Good rock tunes, love the harmonies. I prefer their s/t because the songwriting on that is really unique. Some tracks like Dam That River and Hate to Feel are straight skippers. 6/10

The vocal harmonies are the best thing about the band, but I'm not so sure about the songs as a whole. I'm not done listening to Dirt yet, but so far, my impression is that it's rather one dimensional and I'm not that into most of the riffs. I feel like this might be a band (or at least album) that I need to take in small doses.
The opening riff to "Them Bones" is a nostalgia trip for me, since it was featured in this promo clip that used to play on all my old anime VHS tapes from Manga Entertainment. EDIT: Actually, I'm misremembering. That was Celtic Frost - The Heart Beneath. Only slightly similar, but not really at all when you get down to it. Then I'm not even sure where it is I'm remembering this AIC song from... Last edited by MicShazam; 05-24-2018 at 11:51 AM. |

Agreed, best thing they ever did imo.
Full of good **** but 'Would?' and 'Rooster' have to be my favourite AiC tracks.

AIC were really good at one thing: melancholic, curtains-drawn dirges. For some reason, instead of playing to this strength, they spent most of their career making the kind of tepid cock-waggling rawk that Dirt is filled with. This is seriously one of the most overrated albums of the 90s. 2/10
