I mean yeah

Soundgarden Faith No More Alice In Chains Pearl Jam Tool Mars Volta

It all blurs together as post Sonic Youth guitar bands with nothing interesting to offer

And yeah it’s true I never listened to it beyond what happened my way because it takes about 20 seconds to realize it’s not worth an hour of your time

And sure to someone who cares the bands I mentioned are probably seemingly unrelated

But here’s the thing

Even Zeppelin couldn’t have been Zeppelin post Sonic Youth

Maybe in 2030 a new retro space will open back up this **** no

Hmm… honestly I don't really like Sonic Youth, and though they were certainly an influence on some of the bands you mentioned, I don't hear it all with Faith No More.

That’s the problem

Sonic Youth was the final chapter on rock guitar

And @ Frown

Maybe there’s some of that because Sonic Youth was like directly my day as in you know 18 years old and there they were

But I don’t think my listening habits really support your hypothesis

Maybe with popular music it does

I rejected many guitar bands right off on my sonic youth litmus test

I’ll think about that

That's a disappointing ending to the rock guitar saga.

I like Alice in Chains but am definitely not over the moon about them, but when they kicked the LA Melvins schtick to the curb for an EP of acoustic(ish), dual lead vocal tracks it was the best thing they ever did by a mile and you should at least hear Jar of Flies before you shut the door.

Spoiler for vids:
Okay the new video system won't let you post playlists in a single video. Lame.

Jar of Flies is their only good release IMO. I never really thought of it as acoustic though, just better.

Ouch, that is a scathing review if I've ever read one. I personally find myself enjoying both of those musical personalities, but I agree that their best momemts were when they were writing gloomy songs. I forgot to list on my favorite songs for this album on my previous post, but "Down In A Hole" is definitely my favorite track from this album and I think that embodies a lot of their best qualities.

Suggesting that every rock band should give up because of other good rock bands comes off a weird brand of the music was better in my day stance.

**** Sonic Youth.

Anyway, I ended up much closer to Janzoon's stance on Dirt than I thought I would. Monumentally boring. I'm actually really hyped on the upcoming AIC album, if only because I really dig the new single, but I was never a fan of the band and Dirt is just an amazingly boring album. I can hardly find anything on it to care about. To me, the songs aren't even catchy. There sure isn't any musical nuance to speak of, so a lack of memorable songs is the kiss of death.

Them vocal harmonies tho
