I don't see the point in it. It's really destracting . Especially on Slipknot. there trying to look hard, but they just look down right silly. For me it's difficult to take a band seriously that wears masks. It's even harder to take a band seriously that wears masks and play ****ty music.

I should've rephrased that. If bands want to be taken seriously they shouldn't wear masks. As with anything there are some exceptions. Such as early genesis when Peter used to go up on stage dressed in a fox mask to support there Foxtrot album. Or any of there elaborate costumes. Peter really liked the arts and it definatley shows. Early Genesis for me were a very silly group in general. There lyrics are very wymsical and silly, but it sounds great still. This worked for them. Slipknot and Mushroomhead view themselves as very serious musicians and put on masks for no real theatrical value just for shock value. I don't think either one of those bands are wearing the masks to support the arts, but rather to see how people react. That is the irony of these bands that dress in masks that want to get a reaction out of people. It's just a joke.

In metal a headbangers journey corey taylor and joey jordison were saying that they were proud of the fact that a lot of little kids support there music and a lot of them feel safe while listening to it. Making that kind of statement towards there own band wouldn't be something to say if they didn't think there music was serious. In an MTV interview Corey Taylor was saying that a lot of the music he puts out was inspired by his dad. Once again another statement that's supposed to be taken seriously. As much as I hate to admit it I was once a Slipknot fan. That was before I started listening to Opeth, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Behemoth, Mastodon and a lot of other great metal bands I wasn't exposed to. Like you said Slipknot does attract kids who just start listening to metal. I was one of those stupid teenage kids at one point.

If you can't enjoy Slipknot because they wear masks why don't you have a problem with Behemoth wearing makeup and costumes? I mean they're a good a band but you have to admit the way they dress up is at least as silly as Slipknot, if not more.

Haha very true. Like I said there's always exceptions. Maybe I should just categorize it as every Nu - Metal band that puts on a mask and tries to look hard. Gah can't make up my mind! Behemoth does kick ass though and if they could dress up and still continue to put out great music there okay in my book. At the same time though there no Slipknot |

For me, it's not the masks that are the problem for me with this band but the terrible inconsistencies in their music. Some of their songs I thoroughly enjoy while others are just downright horrible, often on the same album. I guess that's better than most nu-metal acts where I straight up hate those bands whole discographies.
