Farewell tour announced today.

Frownland 01-22-2018 10:03 AM

Good. Slayer without Lombardo is a farce.

OccultHawk 01-22-2018 10:22 AM

I wonder what size venues they’ll play.

Akai 01-22-2018 10:23 AM

Rush and now Slayer.

When will this torment end.

Trollheart 01-22-2018 10:24 AM

The last two albums were pretty terrible. Probably the right decision. Then in ten years or so they can get back together and hit the road for the SLAYER RISES FROM THE PITS OF HELL TOUR!

Condolences, Batty. At least you might get to see Kesha live yet, if they lift that injunction. :D

Frownland 01-22-2018 10:24 AM

If Rush isn't having fun while they're playing, I wouldn't want to see them.

Could've sworn I've seen him mention seeing them but I might be wrong. If so he can suck it because I saw them with all of the original members for one of my first shows :finger:

I saw them with Lombardo and Hanneman too, so...

I thought so. Join me and give the forum a big :finger::finger: until someone comes in says they've seen them ten times.

Oriphiel 01-22-2018 11:06 AM

I've seen them eleven times

Frownland 01-22-2018 11:11 AM

Eleven is a fake number.

Akai 01-22-2018 11:12 AM

You guys are triggering me.

Only seen em twice in my life.

Plankton 01-22-2018 11:37 AM

Fitting user name for the OP.

The dusk of an era. I've seen them once or twice. At Ozzfest 1999, we had sky box seats over the crowd, and as we watched the pit while Slayer was on, my GF (at the time) said she wanted to be in it. So, we walked down to the edge of it, and I picked her up and held her out just far enough to technically "Be in it", then pulled her back in as she giggled with delight and we went back to our sky box.

You should have thrown her in!

OccultHawk 01-22-2018 11:58 AM

I’ve never seen slayer.

Haha, loser.

Good.

Farewell 01-22-2018 02:00 PM

Saw them three times. Twice at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago in '87 and '88.

And again in 1991 for Clash of the Titans tour in Omaha.

I'm debating whether I should see them on this final tour? Not sure how I'll feel about not seeing Jeff and Dave on stage though. That'll be weird.

Totally appropriate user name!

Can't wait for them to release the dates I need to see them before they're gone.

The Batlord 01-22-2018 07:08 PM

I am kinda curious what they sound like with Gary Holt tbh.

Same here. I've seen him with Exodus though.

It also dawned on me the last time I saw Slayer live, Kerry had hair and Tom was skinny.

Blue Hawk 01-23-2018 09:45 AM

Good. Slayer without Hanneman is a farce.

Frownland 01-23-2018 09:47 AM

I think he's great but he's expendable tbh.

Wasn't he like half the songwriting team?

Not really necessary for touring is it?

I thought you meant in general. I honestly can't tell the difference between Hanneman and King so I'll defer to you I guess.

Frownland 01-23-2018 10:10 AM

Hanneman has a bit more flavour in his solos but ja they're very similar.

The Batlord 01-23-2018 10:13 AM

I'm assuming the uniform styles are entirely intentional. It would be weird to hear Kerry King going crazy on "Angel of Death" and then in comes John Petrucci.

It's defo intentional but the alternative could work better than ****ing that.

Wpnfire 01-24-2018 09:38 AM

King's solos are average with a few of them being good. Hanneman's solos are always good if not great.

Sort of like on Rust In Peace how Mustaine's solos are always amazing while Marty Friendman's solos are good at best.

What the ****? You have it backwards, son. Mustaine always banks on the strength of the other guitar player.

Wpnfire 01-24-2018 10:19 AM

I never thought Friedman's solos fit the music. He uses too much melody and it always sounds out of place.

MicShazam 01-24-2018 11:50 AM

I don't like Friedmans solo records, but he was an excellent fit for Megadeth imo. The solo in Tornado of Souls is immortal. My favorite lead guitarist for Megadeth was probably Chris Poland. His style just fit really interestingly on the two albums he played on (The System Has Failed and Peace Sells). Poland plays with all these subtle bends and adds a lot of tonal tension in his melodies, making it sound quite jazzy at times.

I think most of the band's lead guitarists have been interesting. Chris Broderick and Glen Drover somewhat excepted.

Translation: Mustaine plays very safe solos and Friedman tries to make the song more interesting.

Ja, Poland is most definitely the best Megadeth guitarist all around and is jazzy as ****.

Wpnfire 01-24-2018 04:52 PM

Mustaine's ending solo in "Five Magics" is fantastic. Friedman belongs in ****ing nightwish or whatever.

Other bands do the tasteful metal solos much better, like Heathen.

Frownland 01-24-2018 04:53 PM

I'll add it to the list of dumbass opinions that you'll eventually learn to reverse.
