Seriously though I've heard of them for years but never checked them out till now. Dull tbh. Maybe I'll change my opinion later, but they sound like the kind of melodic metal/hard rock who were rightfully made obsolete, not just by thrash, but by punk. They make me feel like I'm wasting my time by listening to them and not Saxon.

I'd have them as hard rock more so than heavy metal. I think it's quite common these days for anything with distortion from the 80's to be called metal when it's not ha

Actually watched them twice in the past week, had a beer with John as well (the rhythm guitarist), really nice guy

Both hard rock and heavy metal.
Riot were always their better contemporary counterparts!

I remember hearing Y&T in the 80's, and I have a few tunes in rotation on my main drive now, but they've always been a band that I usually skip over. They were more of a hair metal band than anything, but a lot of hair metal bands are really just glam'ed up hard rock. It's funny that most of the kids who were into them thought of themselves as hard core metal enthusiasts.

An afterthought is that Y&T is a pretty ****ing cool name for an 80's (well 70's even) band. Then, there's all the speculation hearsay and conjecture about what it really meant. No internet back then meant quite a lot of goofy **** was made up, and it made for an interesting package, no matter how cheese ball the music is/was.

The fact that it was the actual name on their first two albums just shows you how many people gave the slightest ****.
