Why not just rename this thread "MicShazam listens to death metal" at this point? I'm not even close to being the biggest fan of the genre in here. That's the funny part.

Tchornobog - Tchornobog (2017)

Like Mondo said, cavernous indeed! Uniformly dark and noisy records like this tend to bore me, but this is just so evocatively atmospheric, dark, brooding and textured... The growled vocals have some dynamism going on (rare for a DM band) and some parts are positively spine-tingling. The album arguably sounds quite muddy, but I rally just think that's the result of having so many layers going on with so much reverb. It basically sounds really cool and there's some bottom end that comes out on proper speakers and really adds to the atmosphere. The drums sound really good, actually, especially for the genre. In some of the less busy segments, you can really hear the fullness of the hihats and cymbals and it's wonderful to not have some dull, dry, triggered sound, but rather something fitting for some fusion jazz record.

Pretty stellar stuff. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to just sit in the dark for an hour with a scowl on my face, listening to this.

8/10 at least.
