Nah. They had Possessed, but Possessed sound closer to some weird version of 1st wave black metal than death metal, they didn't start or were part of a death metal scene, and Death existed on their own before Possessed even dropped Seven Churches. I think they basically get the nod just cause of "Death Metal" tbh. Death may not have had the first DM album but they probably have more claim than most of having started it.
