I don't know enough music theory to really unpack and explain what it is I'm missing in his music, but it feels very distinctly like there's something he's NOT doing much.

This still feels a bit too musically underdeveloped - or maybe that's the wrong word, since I don't mean to say it seems badly put together. It's just that I really feel like I want more from his guitar arrangements and his vocal melodies. There were admittedly some nice moments in his singing here and a subtle key shift (hopefully the right terminology) that occured a couple times and sounded pretty cool.

In a way, it makes me think the original version is kind of like a heavily amplified rock lullaby.

You didn't catch the descending half steps motif?

Is it really a hook if you can miss it?

You can go fishing all day and not catch a thing.

Only if there's actually something to catch.

On another note, this is one of my favorite Townsend tracks and why I think Ki is a better representation of his range as far as album experiences go. Starts of very rock n' roll, briefly crosses over into his Strapping Young Lad sound, then shifts into jazzy acoustic territory.

Light the blue touch paper, and retire.

Seriously, there's a lot of his stuff I like, don't get me wrong. But - and maybe I'm just having bad luck with my shuffled playlist here - about four out of every five tracks that come up seem to be pointless indulgence: him yelling something over loud guitar chords, some semi-ambient/field recording stuff, spoken word ... much of it I just do not get. And why he thinks this makes him a musical genius, if he does. There's no doubting his prolific output, but is it all necessary?

The answer, after these messages from Chula's 70s Arena Rock Warehouse Clearance: Your One-Stop Shop for Nostalgia! Chula's: if it ain't here, you were probably trippin'.

I couldn't have come up with a better analogy of your "songwriting" efforts if I tried.

Chula acts like he once had a one night stand with Frownie at his place and wanted more but Chris just gave him cab fare.

Huh? I realize that you're intimidated by my greatness but at least make your posts coherent.
