Can anyone describe the stylistic difference between older/newer Foo Fighters albums?

In my experience, they started off as a really strong alternative rock band and over time became a rather mediocre hard rock band, but that's probably just me.

I like their earlier stuff, Color And The Shape is a highly sentimental album, not a fan of the band though

Also musically the dude has never brought anything but an ultra safe and canned product to the table. Honestly he might be one of the biggest contributors to the stalemate that is modern rock music.

His drumming on the orange self-titled Killing Joke album is pretty great as is his drumming on Songs for the Deaf. And his Probot album was also good.

He also drummed for Them Crooked Vultures and it was pretty damn good.

I've come to the conclusion, their first three are solid records (as I've already stated my admiration of Color&The Shape) but after that point, it gets more to individual songs rather than complete albums, they sort of lost something with/after One By One
