Look, we all hate them, and I'm guilty of being one of the ones who once said "I don't get it, what's wrong with them?" I listened to, I think, Inhuman Rampage and thought it was ok. Then some years later I heard Maximum Overload and I thought "Hang on a minute! These are the very same runs, the same solos, the same riffs, the same sound effects ... in fact, the same everything!"

And lo! The (dragon) scales fell from my eyes and they were opened to the banality that is Dragonforce, and I saw them for what they were: cliche-ridden, teen-friendly, bandwagon-jumping talentless wankers who were the very parody of everything that is bad about power metal.

Praise Dio, I have been saved!

Nah, Dragonforce is one of the very few bands I hate, as opposed to simply being indifferent to. I'm convinced they were a meme, but metalheads were too dumb to get it, and enough of them didn't listen to actual power metal that they thought Dragonforce were a good representation of the genre, so that the band actually got "popular" when all the people initially involved in breaking them were just high and giggling. I'd totally forgive the band for every stale solo, riff, vocal, song, etc if they just came out and admitted it. Then it would be performance art.

I know there was a song I used to like from them back in the day, when I was still a dumb teenager, but I don't even know if I like that song anymore. "Black Fire" I think.

I did. I liked the one song. Then I bought an album. Didn't question why I never ended up getting past more than halfway through, or remembering more than the first three songs. Took me a good while to realize that they were boring me. Ah the stupidity of youth. In my defence, this was before I had money or an internet connection, so that Dragonforce album was a much greater percentage of my music library than it would be now (I sold it), so I was kind of invested in liking it.
