Who cares about fairness though? We're talking about favourites, something's bound to get shunned in favour of another.

And again, with your use of the word "customary", I wonder if this dispute is driven by generational differences.

So many many bands with live albums being among their best work
One More from the Road, Lynyrd Skynyrd
At Fillmore East, Allman Brothers Band
Root Down, Jimmy Smith

No they don't.

This actually makes me wonder--is the way that both sides are viewing live albums a generational thing?
I agree with this. If I said (let's go back to them) what's your favourite Maiden albums I bet there'd be a few who would have Live After Death in there. It's by no means exclusive.

Rush's live records are brilliant.
No it isn't, and no it isn't. In fact, you were the one who said "no live albums", when it's not even your thread. Sure, Chula took that up but I bet if you had said nothing there's a good chance he would have let it slide....

Dammit it's hard to choose between those two isn't it? I mean, World has 2112 and By-Tor, whereas Exit has Xanadu, Tom Sawyer, the Trees...

Sorry but this is quite simply the dumbest thing posted on this site in a quite a while. I've seen them at least 4 times and actually stopped because I got tired of seeing them play so any of their most popular songs as carbon copies.

Studio Limelight: 4:26
Rush in Rio Limelight: 4:29

Studio Subdivisions: 5:34
A Show of Hands Subdivisions: 5:22

Studio Witch Hunt: 4:46
Snakes and Arrows Witch Hunt: 4:49

I could do this all day. Rush was never a jam band that would expand their songs with improvisation. They might extend and intro or outro a bit or include a drum solo section but they never jammed per se.

I wouldn't say carbon copy, when I saw them on their Time Machines tour, they had a much higher energy that brought a different dynamic to the way they played. They were pretty true to the songs because, you know, it's prog, but it is most certainly a different animal.

Church

Rush could replicate everything they did in the studio live and they did giving their fans exactly what they wanted

That's why they never failed to see **** tons of tickets
