I know you're just doing this to piss me off, but sometimes arguing like you is like talking to a brick wall. I obviously only used Maiden as an example. What I'm saying is that if it's a live album by a band I know, whose studio material I have already reviewed, there's not much I can write about their live stuff.

Live albums have the potential to do MUCH more than this. That's really my main point of dispute.
My main point of dispute is that the way I write, the way I like to write, reviewing a live album leaves little scope for me. For me, only. Someone else might love reviewing it. Me, not so much. That's my choice. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate live albums or even love them (I do) but they're not my choice for reviewing. Were it an artiste I didn't know, or had not heard much/any of their studio material, that might be a different matter.

I hope that clears things up for you.

tl;dr: I don't enjoy reviewing live albums.

For no good reason, it seems, as you've yet to give a reason that isn't informed by your live album bias.

Thread rules changed to STUDIO albums only.

Each studio album has it's own vibe based on the maturity of the band, where their heads are songwriting wise, what studio was used, How that stage of their career relates to other music of the same era, etc.

"5 Favorite Rush Albums", not "5 Favorite Rush Albums Insofar as to How They Encompass the Sound of the Group at that Given Point In Their Career"

As much as I typically disregard most live albums, I have to say there are some exceptions. Rush has always made a big deal about their live albums; earlier in their career they'd regularly release them after a handful of albums to essentially "document" their sound from that era. Rush's live albums should count.

I'm rarely in the mood for the really early Rush stuff (s/t, Fly By Night, Caress of Steel), but I love throwing on All the World's a Stage every once in a while.

Hindsight is 20/20. My thread, I can revise the rules if I want.

So change the title to "5 Favorite Rush Albums Insofar as to How They Encompass the Sound of the Group at that Given Point In Their Career" then?

Or, you know, don't. It's your thread Chula.

That's why I was asking before I did it.
