You don't have to be more abrasive to be doing something new. Not to mention how important it is that both bands have hugely different sounds.

I hate when you pull out the dense card. VH and their hits allowed FM radio stations all over the country to keep playing guitar centric, raunchy music. Why do you think The Clash broke so big back then?

If you want to continue to make it painfully obvious how little you know about punk then go ahead, but don't pretend like the fault is on my end.

I think people misunderstand VU. I think the more import thing about the band was ideas John Cale brought into the band which come from drone and experimental music. (That's just my personal opinion.)

I'm not a punk expert. I just know what was being played, and exposed to the masses, back in the late 70s.

Don't hate me cause I'm older than you.

Son.

Gottcha Epic album.
One of the contributing factors for The Clash was that they at the time provided affordable albums. Plus they had their ear to what was happening in Jamaica (i.e. Dub music) and they were kinda popular in the R&B and hip hop crowd cause of it (early-stage of hip hop).

In the late 70s I was in a band playing **** like Rush, UFO, Travers, Trower, Zep, Tull, Floyd, etc. I hated both disco and punk for ruining it for me. But at least I could relate to punk bands where the guitar player was up front playing loud and with distortion - and the music wasn't geared toward dancing.
