I didn't say you are negatively criticizing him.

Isn't "negatively criticize" an oxymoron?

In this case neither Terrapin_Station nor I were redundant, just specify what is meant. Since "criticize" has two meanings 1. to nit-pick or point out faults 2. to analyze and form a judgement on a literary or other art work. Because of the second definition is possible to criticize and not be entirely negative. When a person critiques something in the world of art, he weighs both the positive and negative aspects of what is being analyzed. The reviewer will draw a conclusion based from his point of view, it is an just opinion, and the person will often rate it. How it is rated will be on the spectrum of how much it is liked or disliked.

The more academic sense of criticism doesn't imply negative judgments. That's the sense used in literary criticism for example.

Oh. That makes sense then. I always found "criticism" to be a negative connotation but that could just be my ignorance.

Well, you could look at it always in a negative way. Like some people will see saying, "You didn't develop your character well enough to be able to relate to him" to be the exact same things as saying, "your main character sucked."

It's just the lense of how you see it. Do you understand what I'm saying?
