Everything I heard so far sounds totally bland to me (no surprise there). I thought Death Magnetic was their worst album and this has the same problems. A bunch of mediocre parts (and a few good ones) stuck together with generic changes or just juxtaposed, no real flow, no songwriting flare. Hetfield's singing ranges from OK to god awful, Kirk's wah has just become a boring manirisim at this point, Lars keeps getting worse and worse.

I always just assumed Metallica were a tribute act for Elastica. I've learnt a lot from this site.

After getting through the entire album and liking it I have not touched it since. I don't know if that means anything since I've been listening almost exclusively to hip hop, but it's clearly not a point in the album's favor.

A lot of people are praising this album as a return to form, but I just don't see it. Sure, it's nowhere near as terrible as St. Anger or Lulu, but it doesn't really stand anywhere near their first five releases, or even the Load/Reload for that matter.
Honestly, it feels like Death Magnetic 2.0. Basically a safe release to keep the Metallica brand relevant and nothing more. |

i've listened to a few tracks.
sadly i find myself continuing to be disappointed with Metallica. (incoming unpopular opinion) i'm starting to think these guys should maybe start thinking of retirement as i have liked almost none of the material that they have made since their 1992 self-titled. |
