Doesn't this apply even better to Steven Wilson?

No cause Wilson (or at least Porcupine Tree) has character. Not to say Devin doesn't at points.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I only know Wilson's solo stuff and it was boring. Not painful, at least. Just sort of elevator muzak for smart people.

Yes. If it weren't for SYL, the two would be inseparable for me.

The Steven Wilson and Devin Townsend hate at this forum is confusing. I'm not trying to sound like a fan boy, but it's silly to think that their music is overrated.

Are you saying that because of what you consider to be the quality of the music or because of the size of their fanbase?

The size of the fanbase is irrelevant. I base if off of my opinion of quality, which...ah, I see your point.

Well, from that perspective, if any one person thinks that their boring works are great, then they are overrated.

Nah they definitely are. The production is heavy and squeaky as ****. I love SYL, and the production, but the production is definitely dense.
