They both have the same number of albums I like, but Slayer edges Metallica because Slayer has one of the best EP's in metal, Haunting the Chapel. Metallica has some of my favorite songs ever, but I can't decide if that's more impressive than having more releases I like.

It's too close.

I think they added something to it. Good cover. I also like what they did with Guilty of Being White.

I swear, sometimes you just have the most OTT opinions for seemingly no apparent reason. That's one of the best songs on South of Heaven. At the very least it is not "vile".

And Metallica's ability to put out some amazing covers should certainly be taken into account when judging them as a band.

Time Does Not Heal is cool record but it's not even close to South of Heaven.

Nah it definitely crushes it. South of Heaven may have a few better riffs, but Time Does Not Heal is one of the most crushing, and quite possibly the most nihilistic thrash album of all time. South of Heaven is a decent Slayer album, but Time Does Not Heal is a force of nature that has no comparison.

Damn. I'll give it a few more close listens.

I can already sense that from one listen. My beef is a simpleton's beef: It's too long. The intros and interludes all go on for too long. I'm not sold on the vocals. Maybe too Maidenly. The content has to be complimented with sonic aesthetics. Like Exhorder makes their point with SOUND. But if you say so I'll give it a few more spins.

It's not as intense as a death thrash album, but it's A.) got an atmosphere that your average neanderthal thrash album does not have, and B.) the technical intricacies of the music (and I am not a tech head) create a claustrophobic feeling that accentuates that nihilistic atmosphere.

It's a "dark" album, and it probably does require more than one or two listens to really grok. This was the song that really got me after repeated listens when I burned it onto a mixed thrash CD back when I was a teenager, and it's what's made this album my top Dark Angel album up till this day. It's brutal, but not in as obvious a way as Exhorder, it's emotionally relentless. And honestly the vocals are a large part of what makes it work, since you can not only understand what the singer is saying, but you can listen to what he's saying while taking him seriously as a story teller since he's not just some guy screaming or wailing.

I don't go in for YouTube as a medium for music except in extreme cases

So if you wanna suggest I pay attention to a certain track I would really appreciate you telling me what track it is

I'll cue it up
