Pop rock, on the other hand, is a basic blend of rock and pop, and there's nothing really more to say about that.

Pop Rock = Beatles
Pop Metal = Motley Crue. But keep in mind pop metal is a rarely used term. It's mostly either glam or hair metal.

As far as other examples of heavy metal/hard rock, Dream Theater, Motorhead, Scorpions (my favorite example), Soundgarden, Ozzy, Judas Priest, and Riot.

Although it's always subjective, there are commonly agreed on ones.
Interesting. In Sweden I don't know anyone who would've defined your example bands as Heavy Metal. Hard rock, maybe... I guess your definition of Heavy Metal is more widespread in America?

You don't know anyone who'd define Ozzy as metal?

Many songs, yes, so perhaps I should stand corrected. What would you say is Classic Rock? 60's and 70's?

But 80's rock, and rock with 80's influence is usually defined Metal?

No, rock from the 80s is rock. If it was metal, we would call it metal.

So, what is the difference between an American definition of 80's rock, and metal, like Ozzy? The sound of the guitar? The music is more "heavy"?

I am having difficulty hearing the "hard rock" or "heavy metal" in a song like "Black Sabbath - Paranoid". Maybe back in the days. But it's classic for me.

That would be early metal and since it came up from hard rock, it has some markable similarities.

All right, cool. And what would you define as the hard rock that it came from? That is not classic rock?

I don't really use the term classic rock because it's more of a radio format than a clear genre.
