Sub-genres highlight specific shared aesthetics. They proliferate and become popularized because they are helpful, such as the case of Bestial Black Metal. They shrivel and die when they're just another marketing tool, such as Pirate Metal, back when alestorm was "the thing". Just because "Pirate Metal" is bull**** does not mean Bestial Black Metal is bull****, etc, etc. If two people post on this here board, one asking for recommendations for "Atmospheric Black Metal" and the other for "Bestial Black Metal", these two would get very different recommendations with no/minimal overlap. Why? Because these subgenres, like many others, are incredibly useful. tl;dr - it's called nuance, and appreciating it is part of being an adult.

While I personally like sub-genres when they are use correctly, there is a mob of idiots online who mislabel **** all the time, and it's pretty annoying. Youtubers and people who tag things on discog are the worst offenders.

Haha, I have to agree. The OP is oversimplifying a bit. Anything before '92 is obviously NOT referred to as classic rock. And where does the whole 'some skateboarder' thing come from.....OP, do you have an actual example of what you're referring to? Sounds like you are just annoyed by an over-abundance subgenres in general (which are, in reality, needed to distinguish between different styles).
