This is the best Sonic Youth album.

I just downloaded a Mozart album. Such a great 2010s artist.

I thought of that joke too but in his or her defense SY was actually releasing records in the 90's. Just not the right ones.

I have just realised I disagree with you.

They were both popular in the late 80s; just as early 90s. And they have had equally "BIG" singles. etc during that period. The only difference is the exact time people dicovered them.

BTW, Mozart has been doing pretty well, still in the 21st century. His music is still an inspiration for many rock bands, esp. those that mix rock etc. with classical sounds. Suprisingly enough, this comes out pretty well.

Pavement is the correct answer.

The differences are that they started in the 80s, broke through in the 80s, released their biggest single in the 80s, released their biggest album in the 80s, and played a style of music that was emblematic of the 80s. The fact that their popularity continued on into the very early part of the 90s doesn't change the fact that they're fundamentally an 80s band.

Anyone want some Meat Loaf?

I have to agree that they were an 80's band. Appetite is their highest selling album, as well as the highest selling debut album in the world. Sweet Child of Mine is considered to be one of the all-time greatest rock songs ever, same list as other amazing hits like Teen Spirit or Stairway to Heaven. Plus, it's often agreed on that their best album was Appetite. As for their 90's works, they were often iffy. UYI2 might be a hit album, but it never came close to the acclaim of Appetite.
