Why on earth would you subject yourself to that many Scorpions albums?

Take a wild guess. Oh, wait, I've heard three live albums as well. Tokyo Tapes, World Wide Live, Unplugged in Athens.

Because Scorps are the best metal band. You can't tell me they haven't had their share of awesome albums. Plus, I love Meine's vocals. Despite the raspiness, it's so unique and melodic, and badass.

I like some Scorpions songs, but in general I find their sound to be without personality and too squeaky clean to have any real bite. And Klaus Meine's vocals are likewise too shiny and boring. They're what Judas Priest would be if they lost all of their edge to go for a purely stadium metal sound.

And Dokken somehow managed to refine the Scorpions' sound to make it even more nondescript and dull, almost bringing sanitized metal to an art form.

Dokken might have been influenced, but I can tell you if Dokken sounded like Scorpions, I'd be way more into Dokken. I'm not. I just thought the concert was awesome. But I live with Dokken fans, and I don't remember ever thinking of Scorpions when I listen to them. Dokken are way more stadium based while Scorpions carefully balances their energy with serenity depending on the flow of the song. Still Locing You is a ine example, starting soft and slow until it gets more upbeat and metallic. Plus, although they aren't diverse, Klaus Meine brings a lot of personality to the songs. THey're all great lyricists, btw.

I only listen to Dokken because of George Lynch. Dude's rhythm and solo chops are so unique. Someone described his soloing as the sound of a live cat being put into a blender. Perfect.

Millions of glam metal bands and their power ballads would have words with your assertion that softer songs aren't arena fodder. They're totally an arena metal band.

I never said Scorpions aren't an arena band. I said Dokken's way more of an arena band. And I never said softer songs aren't arena songs, either. Heck, I put Eagles' Hotel California in the 70's arena rock list.
