Arena Rock

1. Toto - IV
2. Journey – Escape or Frontiers
3. Boston – Boston
4. Styx – The Grand Illusion
5. Strangeways – Native Sons
6. Def Leppard – Hysteria
7. Meat Loaf – Bat Out of Hell
8. Rush – Moving Pictures
9. Foreigner – 4
10. Asia - Asia

I added Asia just in case we decide to leave the current list as is.
I really think you're cocking this up and mixing these loose genre terms too much.

There's no way you can have Strangeways, Rush and Def Leppard in the same cat, why not add Genesis and Europe as well The way you are cutting and cropping these lists will leave these cats so jumbled.

Just think-

AOR: American (mostly) west coast rock: Just think Toto and Journey and the whole host of bands not from California like Survivor etc who despite coming from Chicago still had that California rock sound. Draw in bands like Foreigner and REO etc with their own styles and you've got a genre.

Arena: Much looser and harder to define and primarily any band that could fill out stadiums, but as that would just about include anybody in the 1970s and 1980s, was normally used for big selling bands that streamlined their sound for arenas with more commercial style songs. Perfect examples Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, Genesis, Queen and Asia who actually formed primarily to fill out stadiums etc and in the 1980s this started to include more metal orientated bands like Def Leppard, Van Halen hell you could even call Iron Maiden arena rock as well.

To confuse you more a lot of the AOR bands could equally be called arena and bands like Boston and Styx equally comfortable in both cats.

Therefore better to do 1) prime era AOR late 70's to mid 80's list 2) classic arena rock from the 70s 3) classic arena rock from the 80s. If you eliminate any metal bands that will make your job easier but you could squeeze some borderline albums like Hysteria in.

I don't mind doing a new top 10 AOR list for you and leave you and JG to do arena.

I'm not that worried about Toto. I just went with his decision so I didn't fill it with things I only agreed with.

I'm fine with either or. I'm not worried about length, so I'm fine without separating.

You can use the skate punk one if you want. There's enough of the popular punk rock bands to make it a list, and let's use Tristan's idea to switch the Milo album.

EDIT: By the way, "Escape or Frontiers" was as choice between the two. Both have great Journey singles, so I'm up for either/or.

Damn, we should put Asia there. I'd say replace... REO Speedwagon or Strangeways.

By the way, how long will it be before each one gets one? I'd like a couple days to prepare for the next, since that's how much time I'll have. One every three days? Or maybe mondays and thursdays?

Alright, so now we have to take everything we've already gotten and make them into two lists: AOR and Arena Rock.

Take your time, I'll try not to forget about them this time.

@JGuy

I don't know what you're trying to say in your last post.

How far apart in time will each round be? It should be enough time to listen to the necessary albums.

Alright, now I'm not sure you understand how this works. There will definitely be enough time for everything. I don't really want to explain the process right now, as once we get started, it's pretty self-explanatory. But don't worry about checking back every two seconds, I'll give everyone plenty of time to deliberate before we get started.

I wanted to be sure since I thought I saw a post stating there one be one a day, which would be too quick. so I wanted to be sure. I can't find that post, though.

Just a thought. When I started the survivor threads I started with bands not albums.

I find this more fun because your taking an artists entire work into the equation when voting.

and some genres of rock music, particularly punk, aren't well suited for albums because often their best music was on EP's and singles. (Ie the Dead Kennedys Police Truck and the Holiday in Cambodia singles version) were never put on an album until the Give me Convenience or Give me Death compilation.

So just a thought.

I liked a good portion of the first half, but it was goofy as ****, and I'm pretty sure it was unintentional. The second album was just boring and even more goofy.
