I could never get into KC, but I don't think any album of theirs deserves more than Court, since I do believe it's the best. I can also write a symphonic prog list.

1. Yes - Close to the Edge (replaced with Fragile on the prog list since Close to the Edge steers more toward symphonic)
2. Camel - Mirage
3. Moody Blues Days of Future Passed
4. Kansas - Point of Know Return (Leftoverture is barely symphonic, Point is very symphonic.)
5. King Crimson - Lizard
6. Änglagård - Hybris
7. Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte
8. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
9. Electric Light Orchestra - Eldorado
10. Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever
Symphonic prog is a pretty meaningless genre.

From Progarchives:

Quote:
Symphonic is without doubt the sub-genre that includes the most bands in Progressive Rock because for many people it's almost synonymous classic Prog, something easy to understand being that most of the classic and/or pioneer bands released music that could be included in this sub-genre, except JETHRO TULL and PINK FLOYD (who still blended some symphonic elements), even KING CRIMSON who very soon expanded their horizons to more experimental music, made their debut with a Symphonic album, "In the Court of the Crimson King" which is a cornerstone in the development of the genre.

The main characteristics of Symphonic are the ones that defined all Progressive Rock: (There's nothing 100% new under the sun) which among others are:
Mixture of elements from different genres.
Complex time signatures.
Lush keyboards.
Explorative and intelligent lyrics, in some cases close to fantasy literature, Sci Fi and even political issues.
Non commercial approach
Longer format of songs

If we're talking general prog rock, then Red all the way; it's one of a handful of albums I'd call perfect. And it's actually reasonably well recognised on RYM.

The fact that Tommy is a rock opera gives me more reason to hate it. I've just never got on with it. Quadrophenia, on the other hand...

I'd replace Kansas and Transatlantic with some Genesis and an Italian classic.

Decisions, decisions...

Alright, here we go. I went ahead and added Riot Grrrl just for the hell of it. In the Court of the Crimson King should definitely stay on, though Red could fit into jazz fusion somewhere. Symphonic Prog will now be a thing, because I'm a genre nazi as well. See JGuy's post on Page 25 for more info on other changes. The only thing he does not mention is that I put Mirage in Symphonic Prog, and stuck Tubular Bells on Prog Rock. I think that's that now.

@New Wave & Gothic Rock
The B-52's replaced Disintegration, and Disintegration is off of any lists for now. Personally, I feel Pornography is just that much more representative of the Gothic sound than Disintegration.

@Folk Rock
Honestly, Joni Mitchell has had such a profound influence on the genre as a whole that I'm willing to let it through. Plus, it may be quiet and guitar-focused, but it uses many rock song structures rather than folk.

@Post-Grunge
All the stuff JGuy said, I did. Turns out Melvins was on stoner Rock as well, so it works out.

@Prog Rock
Switched the King Crimson albums around. Red is on prog, Court is on symphonic.

@Seltzer
Gonna wait to see the general consensus, though I see what you're saying.

@JGuy
Stop posting so damn quick!

SUGGEST ME AN ALBUM - I'm probably not going to listen to it but I will if you bother me enough.

Sorry.

Alright. I think Genesis would do find on the symphonic one. Since we already have England and Lamb on lists, let's do Foxtrot. As for which it replaces, I'll leave Transatlantic out.

I agree, Genesis for the win.

It really doesn't work on a forum. And what reason do I have to be butthurt? Genesis is in.
