Ok, how about replace Mindcrime with Snow by Spock's Beard, or how about a Kinks rock opera? Like Schoolboys in Disgrace? Kinks also have the Preservation albums and Soap Opera. It's hard to find other popular rock operas, so I'm low on options. Most rock operas are either Avantasua albums, reworkings of Jesus Christ Superstar, or unpopular metal albums.
Anyway, these are what I have. I don't care either way. Although I'd prefer Mindcrime stays on, if it's a problem then it can get kicked off, because I feel that rock opera section carries a lot of iconic rock albums. I mean, these are albums which may not fit into other categories or are fitting in categories that are already filled up. Where else would we put Bat Out of Hell? |

Either one, I know it's an unpopular opinion but I lost interest in Rush with the release of Spirit of Radio and although I hear the high level of musical ability showcased on Moving Pictures I pretty much hold it in contempt . To me it's a overpolished radio release... that's not a good thing in my book.

You know, come to think of it, I actually really like AOR. A few AOR albums are just plain perfect, like Bat II, Boston, hell, Hysteria's one of the ten best freakin' albums on the planet. No joke. Amazing album. I think I'll go on an AOR marathon today, look for some real gold that I haven't heard yet.

Would you guys be okay with me putting Red Headed Stranger on the rock opera list?
I sort of feel like it has nothing to do with the rest, but it's also such a good album.

I'm not saying this to keep Mindcrime on the list. I would've likely chosen something else if it were easy. In fact, putting this list together was a little hard, since I can only use one album for a band. And nobody ever told me about what's going to happen with Ziggy Stardust. In fact, I would actually prefer Ziggy over Mindcrime. But saying I don't care has no real grounds, especially since I wrote two lists to contribute. I'm probably one of the biggest rock opera fans on this website. But trying to find popular choices is hard enough. |

Red Headed Stranger, as in Willie Nelson? I like Willie, but a rock opera is pretty much a term for a rock concept album that tells a whole story. One could debate Bat Out of Hell doesn't tell a story, but the songs are taken directly from a play called Neverland written by Steinman. Bat Out of Hell revolves around Ball (Peter Pan in the play) and his feelings for Wendy. All Revved Up is an introduction to Ball and the Lost Boys. Willie Nelson's album tells a story, it's not a rock album. It could definitely fit a top ten of outlaw country if we had a country series, which I'm up for too.

Alright, sounds like Supertramp is going on Prog Rock.
@JGuy That wasn't a personal insult, sorry that you took it that way.

OK, I have another shot. What if we replace A Night at the Opera on the hard rock list with another album, and put that in the rock opera list?
And what about a pop rock list? 1. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 2. Beatles - Abbey Road or White Album 3. The Kinks - The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society 4. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 5. Paul and Linda McCartney - Ram 6. U2 - The Joshua Tree (why isn't this on yet?) 7. Peter Gabriel - So 8. Supertramp - Breakfast in America or Crime of the Century 9. XTC - Skylarking 10. Electric Light Orchestra - Out of the Blue We could also do one for power pop. Heartland rock also. |

Instead of Supertramp, why not Leftoverture by Kansas? THey have more to do with progressive music. Leftoverture and Point of Know Return are their two most notable works.
@Technic I try not to take offense at things. I'm not used to people guessing the reasons why I do things and then assume that';s why I do them. Usually, I do things for different reasons. Sorry if I was rude. Last edited by JGuy Grungeman; 01-13-2016 at 05:33 PM. |
