I'm just confused about pop punk bands trying to be edgy. That's like the safest punk subgenre there is, I don't think they're trying too hard to subvert that.

Edgier than pop, not really edgy though. And even being "edgy" isn't something to write home about. Stooges have a few solid tracks, but for the most part it's pretty bland and forgettable in my eyes.
