Thanks for the update. I've actually never heard Os Mutantes, and given the amount of psych I listen to, that's surprising.

Let's not forget heavy psych. I'm no expert on that, but we must include In-a-gadda-da-vida.

That would be, acid rock, and yes, Mountain needs to be on there too.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I wouldn't call them the same thing. Sure, Iron Butterfly are both, but I'd say acid rock is more experimental while Heavy Psych is riff-based.

Isn't that just stoner rock then?

In-a-gadda-da-vida is really only good for the title track. The rest of the album is dull filler.

Heck no! Stoner rock puts a little more emphasis on blues while keeping fuzzy, often distorted riffs, not to mention raw vocals. I wouldn't put an acid rock band like Jimi Hendrix on the same pedestal as a stoner band like QOTSA. And I wouldn't put QOTSA on the same pedestal as a Heavy Psych band like Iron Butterfly. Ironically, there's a difference to music sounding stoned, and music sounding like it's on acid. Weird.

I see. I've always just lumped heavy psych in with acid rock but I guess there is a difference.

When you got the time, go on a psychedelia marathon. It's a fantastic way to spend time. I can send you a list of my personal favorites.
