I dig The Blackening, as it's their most solid release, but I'd probably have to go with Burn My Eyes -- at least for today, as I can go back and forth. The guitar tone is far more brutal than anything on their more recent material, the music far heavier, and Robb Flynn's vocals were just so ****ing gnarly. Their songwriting may have vastly improved since, but they've toned down a few more notches than I'd like.
The Blackening may be solid from start to finish, and Burn My Eyes might get repetitive halfway through, but can this... ...really **** with this... Oh dear god, Robb Flynn had cornrows in the nineties. WTF?!

I like the vocals and the instrumental of Deftones, i think they are a good band in general, they also have some good lyrics... And yes, i like Glassjaw, 36 Crazyfists, not so much. Yeah, i already knew Machine Head, and i like them, i think their best album was The Blackening. |

They're better musicians now, so the music they produce is more focused, tighter, or put together with a lot more understanding than with Burn My Eyes. But you're not looking at it like that Batty, I understand. Your view is more toward that Burn My Eyes, or The Blackening are just the best out of the albums the band has, more to your taste or preference. By large, the band has not sold out, and they've stayed true to what makes Machine Head, Machine Head. I wouldn't even go so far as to say they market a more commercial sound. Because I'd be amazed if anything recent has ever been played on radio that often. The quality of the bands music is better than anything truly commercial. As far as those two songs you posted go. The first is obviously not as heavy as the second. Guitar tone and the the drumming isn't as aggressive in the first, and the vocals in the second are maybe more...I can't find the word, but by large, the second song is the better of the two. I do get your point though. And yeah...Rob used to have cornrows haha. Last edited by CoNtrivedNiHilism; 04-28-2015 at 10:51 AM. |

Nothing wrong with that man. If you don't vibe with the band. You don't. I'll just keep suggesting and you'll pick out what you liked.
Try these guys. More of a djent oriented band, but the highlights of metalcore or metal are there. Last edited by CoNtrivedNiHilism; 04-28-2015 at 11:23 AM. |

Secondly, I'd say Machine Head weren't so much sellouts, but Robb Flynn has been a trend chaser from day one. Look at his work with Vio-Lence, which is as unoriginal thrash as has ever existed, but it's also some ****ing goodass thrash. Early Machine Head was basically more aggressive Pantera, and now they're throwing in metalcore elements while toning down the abrasiveness. Machine Head are great trend chasers, but in the end, they copy the work of others without actually innovating themselves.

Truthfully. I would kind of love them putting out a new album with that guitar tone from Burn My Eyes. They could do it without remaking that album. I get bored with any Machine Head album myself. But I don't mind it. They're a good band (I know you're not saying they suck haha, that'd be awfully blind of me if I was, because you've expressed you like the band and have a favorite album, in more or less words...) Haha. Robb has always struck me as a guy that loves trends. Funny thing is how he plays it off like he don't. Vio-Lence I haven't heard a lot from, but have heard songs. Good thrash. |
