I totally get where she's coming from having lived in a small town, around 75% of the girls there fit that description.
Are we reading the same quote?

Granted, she adjusted her statement but you can see where I was coming from after reading that.

Her clarification made it more understandable though but I get where you're coming from as well. Let's all be friends.

My bad, I often forget to put a disclaimer on my statements indicating they don't refer to absolutely everything. Nothing I say is absolute without exception, for future reference.

I just meant ones that I could come up with to add to the discussion. I figured since Pet_Sounds was posting about Karen Carpenter, I could post about Janet Weiss, but my metal knowledge basically extends to a couple doom and sludge acts and that's about it.

The only rule that has no exception is the exception to the rule.

... heading into the storm ... umbrella just taken by the wind ... head down ... feet planted....

Generally speaking (and this is generally, so please nobody say I'm making assumptions/assertions) I'd say the reasons why so few women get into metal are varied but would mostly focus on the fact that women as a gender are (again generally) seen to be gentle, nurturing, soft for want of another word, so they don't tend to be drawn towards the louder, more raucous world of metal, and this would also be why people (men mostly) react more disapprovingly (see above disclaimer) when women are loud, nasty, obnoxoious etc (usually when drunk) than they do when their fellow men are. It's almost expected of a man to be loud and laddish, a woman, not so much so.

Which does not mean that every woman is a shy, retiring shrinking violet or a princess living in a tower: I know plenty of loud women who would give any man a run for his money in the rudeness/loudness stakes. But overall, it kind of comes back to what (JWB I think) was talking about the word ladylike. There is a certain expectation of how ladies are supposed to behave, and the idea, say, of a teenage girl going to a metal concert would sit less easily with a parent than it the teenager were a boy. Because of this it could very well be that women aren't exposed to metal the same way lads are from an early age, and so don't really get as caught up in it. A guy seeing his favourite metal band on stage may want to form a band and will have much less trouble finding like-minded guys, whereas a girl will possibly struggle. She may be into forming a band, but how many of her girlfriends are going to think the same way? And then of course, even if she gets a band together they're going to face some serious prejudice and demotivational stuff from the "real" metal bands, ie those comprised of men.

Of course, I could also be full of ****. But that's how I kind of see it.

So. Trollheart does not approve of Huntress?

Feminism sort of annoys me so.....sort of puts Huntress in another perspective for me.
