Solo Wars!!
Well, "Riff Wars" worked so well I thought I'd give this a shot. Doesn't have to be guitar (though most of them probably will be), and the same rules apply, ie sign-up sheet etc. Please judge the songs only on the solo within them. It can be at the start, end or bloody anywhere really, but if anyone is unsure or could be, then just mention it when you post.
Try these to start: Dire Straits --- It never rains (skip to 4:40 for the solo, it's also an outro) Rory Gallagher --- Shin kicker (2:36 for this one) Sign up sheet will be here: let me know if you want to be added. Trollheart Epoch6 Pet_sounds Plankton DwnWthVwls

This is the most dadlike thread of all time. It even has Dire Straits!
I'll go with the Rory Gallagher song, though I didn't really like either. Dire Straits just seem so soulless and empty to me, no matter how decent they are technically. Rory Gallagher one is a lot of fun, I could dance to that. Last edited by James; 02-24-2015 at 06:54 PM. |

Well, you know, that's the music I grew up on. Anyway you may hate Knoplfer but he can certainly play.
Dire Straits - 0 Rory - 1

I think the problem is that we have so many damn music games going on at once now.
2:16 - 3:15 1:24 - 2:12 Funny story about the Cold Sweat solo actually, our other guitarist has a classic rock cover band on the side and they play Cold Sweat. Before their last gig he was complaining that he can never nail the Cold Sweat solo without propping his guitar up in the perfect position on his knee, but it always slips and ****s it up. I told him I'd buy him any drink of his choice if he could nail the solo note for note that night. They kick into Cold Sweat, solo comes up, he walks off stage over to my table, props the guitar up right in front of me, and ****ing slays it note for note, perfect. Lucky his favorite drinks are Caesars. Only put me under $5.

Deep Purple 0
Thin Lizzy 1 I always dug Thin Lizzy and the guitar solos are a big part of that. Truly one of the most under appreciated bands to have played in the 70's.
