I do it out of love for Trollheart. Just think, I was going to pit two Beefheart songs against each other but I didn't want to kill the poor bastard.
This is a hard battle for me because those are two of my favourite pieces from a couple of my favourite jazz artists. I think I'm going to go with Ayler because as badass as Coleman is, he's never gotten a sax tone that dope. Ayler - 1 Coleman - 0

Trollheart If I have to choose one, I'm going for that Orenette whatsit, as it has a nice Waits-y bass going. The other one did not like at all, surprise surprise! Ayler - 2 Coleman - 2

Coleman - 3 The Ayler tune had more of a Latin flare to it which is cool, but that Coleman tune had a nice Swing bop to it, which is IMO a better riff.
