94. Carnivore - Carnivore (1985)

One of many masterpieces given to us by the late Peter Steele. This is a thrash metal album, don't be fooled by the crossover term. Their second album Retaliation is much punkier and more in the crossover style, but this features a highly original heavy, thrashing style of metal that is just relentless. While it's not without it's own punk influences, there's so much more to this. Thrash/speed metal blended with the odd bits of epicness and doom, and crushing grooves. It's all tied together with sheer rawness, undeniable Idon'tgivea**** attitude and apocalyptic destruction. PC queers need not apply.

The unforgettable, proto-Type O Negative track "Male Supremacy":

Oh god I love that song. It's everything that's wrong/right with metal. Dear god, the quality of that video is awful though. Here's a better version. You should seriously replace yours.

95. Edge of Sanity - Crimson

A legendary achievement in progressive and melodic death metal. This album consists of just a single 40-minute song. Crimson. But oh what a song it is. It's a true roller-coaster of emotions and atmospheres, with about 100 different awesome riffs stuffed in. And alongside the music unfolds a dark post-apocalyptic science fiction saga. In fact, it almost plays like a death metal audiobook at times. It helps, of course, that Dan Swano's harsh vocals are easily understandable, with some superb cleans mixed in too. The music and the story complement each other perfectly and make this album a true journey, a masterpiece greater than the sum of its parts. The crescendos and big moments in the music match the rising actions and climaxes of the story. There are some really special moments sprinkled throughout this album that are among my favorites in all of metal. The production is essentially perfect (dat bass sound!) and the album art is gorgeous as well.

I can still remember the first time I stumbled upon this gem on YouTube. I knew it was going to be an all-time favorite as soon as that first violent riff kicked in, and I listened to the whole song/album in one sitting and took in the lyrics/story as I went. Still one of the most memorable musical experiences I've had to this day.

The music is heavy and riff-oriented for "melodeath", but also packs in a surprising amount of atmosphere and rich detail. I still notice new details every time I listen to it. I won't say it's a perfect album as some of the transitions are a bit rough and a couple of the riffs are re-used a few too many times, but overall, this is an album that simply must be heard by anyone who wants to experience all that metal is capable of.

Does anybody check to see if albums are not being duplicated, as I'm sure not everybody will be looking at the list to see if the album that they want to include has already been included. As this list gets bigger duplications are more likely to occur anyway.

I've been checking before every post. Open the spoilers, then use CTRL+F function to see if your band is already on the list.

You have been which is great but I'm sure that some people that post here or will post here may not do that. For example we could end up with Reign in Blood being reviewed three or four times by the time the thread reaches 1001 albums.
