It's definitely a weird phenomenon that such an arbitrary influence as Gothenburg melodic death metal effectively started a whole new genre that eventually lost almost all connections to early metalcore, while also giving the genre such a bad name that a lot of bands just fled from the name of "metalcore". There are a surprising amount of bands that still do the genre justice though.
