Okay ****. Brutal metalcore that smashes the competition. Their breakdowns are to die for.Unorthodox song structure and experimentation and all that.
****in a. Primtime top of the game. Also my first metalcore band, along with Training For Utopia And Bloodlet. This album here is my favorite metal core album of all time. Even more unorthodox structures, and an amazing rhythm section to boot. Sludgey and jazzy. |

Back when I used to read Metal Hammer magazine they included sampler CDs with every issue, and one of them had a Zao song. I remember loving it for being so ****ing awesome, but totally different from all the "mainstream" underground metal on those things (this was back in '07/'08, so it would have been stuff like Suicide Silence, Trivium, Children of Bodom, and god knows how many other melodic metalcore and deathcore bands). Don't remember what the song was, though...
Just checked RYM, and if it was '07, then it must have been off The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here, and just looking at the track listing, "Physician Heal Thyself" looks kind of familiar.

Am now listening to Zao's Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest, and that **** is ****ing sick. Will get the rest of their stuff and binge. News favs for sure. And yes, those breakdowns are certainly to die for. Love the vocalist who sounds like he's gargling glass as well.
Pretty much the whole album is fire, so I'll just post the song that's currently beating my head into the ground. Brutal and immediate while still being unique and interesting. **** the **** yeah!

Came in to share that Zao is probably my favorite metalcore band. Bloodlet may have released the top album, but ultimately didn't have much other material equal to it. Their compilation Eclectic is great, but the rest of their full lengths are hit or miss in quality.
Zao's eearlier output is nonstop fire, completely brutal and outrageous. Eventually they'd shift to a queer KSE type sound, but their first few more than make up for it. Lyrics are smega Christian but who cares, still cool. |

I'd just like to state for the record if I already haven't that Reprisal's Boundless Human Stupidity is one of the best metalcore albums of all time. Why must vegans make such brutal metalcore?
