So is anyone else actually going to get involved with this battle? If not, I'll cut the list in half and make it a five band battle, and if that doesn't work I'll just scrap it and put the band that was most likely to win (Converge) in the Wild Card list.

Or you could put actual well known metalcore bands on the list.

The problem here is two fold:

1. You are trying to sell a survivor genre that is as about as popular as nu metal.

2. Half these bands aren't really signature metalcore bands, they're obscure metallic hardcore bands from the 90's that no one gives an F about. How could you leave off the following???

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare number 1 US charts
Bullet for my Valentine number 3 US, charts,
Killswitch Engage's last two albums broke the US 7
Black Veil Brides US 7
August Burns Red number 9 US,
Bring Me the Horizon, number 11 US, number 3 UK, and number 1, Australia.) ect, ect.

Its almost as you yourself hate the genre so much that your trying to cherry pick around the reality that is metalcore, but batsy, there is no escape from the horror above. That is metalcore!

I expected this possibility, but as it's a legitimate sub-genre with actual quality bands I wanted to at least give it a shot, even if it didn't work out.

I think you're making the mistake of defining metalcore by it's '00s incarnation. Metallic hardcore is just another name for metalcore that doesn't have the melodic death metal influences of the later bands.

It's not just that I don't like most of those bands, but they are A.) critically reviled and by general consensus of all those without ear gauges to not be worthy of consideration on a thread about the best metal albums of all time, B.) derivative Johnny-Come-Latelys who came on the scene when the genre had already become creatively bankrupt, and C.) even if more people know about them, nobody on this site would want to be involved in that battle either.

Can you really think of many people who would give a **** about voting for any of those bands you just listed? The lack of participation would likely have been the same, unless we just so happened to have an influx of the kind of noobs who are the only people to ever list Bullet for My Valentine as a favorite band in their intro thread.

I like more than a few of the modern bands, but again, I think you're defining metalcore from the perspective of a hardcore fan who thinks in terms of hardcore. Unbroken, Snapcase, and Intergrity might be just as much hardcore bands, but they definitely incorporate metal to an extent that they also qualify as metal (although you can certainly argue against Integrity). RYM, Last.FM, and plenty of other sites I checked out when making this list considered every one of these bands to be metalcore, so I stand by my criteria.

It's also been said many times that a lot of the early '80s black metal bands were basically hardcore bands playing metal riffs and singing about Satan, but they're called metal because they associate themselves with metal rather than hardcore. If Hellhammer had called themselves a punk band that just so happened to have a hard-on for the devil, would you really be able to argue with them?
