I love that you included the umlaut. Plus one internet.

I actually think that the BOC album is the cream of this very elite group.
Meh. It's a good/nearly great album to be sure, but I prefer the darkness and complexity of Tyranny and Mutation. It's like their Stained Class. Secret Treaties rules, but it just doesn't have quite enough bite. It's like Deep Purple's Machine Head, but without the completely flawless songwriting to overcome it's less laid back chillness.

BTW, how many people are actually going to be down for metalcore? Mondo is a lock, some other guy who I'm too drunk to remember was about it too, I'll make sure to get Dylstew in on this ****, but that' still just four members (including me), and I'd love it if there was a bigger pool of voters.

If there aren't enough people interested, I'll shorten it to a five album battle, and if that still fails, I'll call time on the battle and put Converge's Jane Doe in the Wild Card battle.

Oh yeah, ContrivedNihilism might be down, but I don't know how he's gonna be about a bunch of old school metalcore bands.

I'll have to wait and see if I know any of the bands.

I'm sure you won't. Here's some Botch for ya. I doubt you'll dig them, but they're all technical and ****, so your prog lovin' ass might appreciate some of their sound. Probably not, though.

Tyranny and Mutation is an album of two halves, the first part is how you describe it and for that reason is known as the 'black side' but I think the true brilliance of that album is it's 'red side' which is like the pop side and it's pretty amazing! Secret Treaties though is the album that the band had been working towards for their whole career and they would never top that again and I disagree with you about the songwriting on it, as I think it's flawless.

Machine Head on the other hand is a different animal, it's that classic hard rock album that feels like it was written on the road and then thrown altogether, which is kind of what happened when you see a documentary on it and in this case it came out perfectly, rather than sounding like a studio beast which the BOC album sounds like.

I know a few albums on the list and if it comes down to them I'll vote.

I've often wondered how it would have ended up if the original recording location (casino) hadn't burned down. It's pretty funny to hear about what the band had to go through each time they wanted to hear a take while recording at the subsequent hotel.

Nope not me, I'm a hardcore fan and I think the list is boring as f/ck! I wouldn't consider a good chunk of those bands to be metalcore anyways... proto metalcore perhaps.

Anyhow I've been griping about this for awhile.

BOC
DeepPurple

BOC

and

Purple

To nobody's surprise, I won't be participating in the metalcore vote. Nor probably ever again, unless you do prog or power metal maybe.

We're doing both, but I suspect you won't be a fan of some of the prog bands.

Progressive Metal

2. Death - Symbolic
3. Dream Theater - Images and Dreams
4. Voivod - Nothingface
5. Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine: Biomech
6. Opeth - Blackwater Park
7. Between the Buried and Me - Colors
8. Mastodon - Blood Mountain
9. Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
10. Enslaved - Vertebrae
